Welcome to Bushcraft Spain's top product. Camp anywhere under your own oilskin tarp. The long staple cotton product we use, finished in an oil and wax formula, is a wonderful fabric for tarps and shelters. The ample and solid 3×3 meter canvas weighs around 3kg / 6.5lb and will shelter you during your wilderness adventure. All tarps are finished with a large number of loops (19) on all four sides and along the centre seam. Its layer of wax and oil provides resistance to water, which will slide down the tarp, thus making it very waterproof. We were pioneers in the manufacture of Oilskin Tarps in Europe and we have paid all our care to their composition: all the loops are resistant, since they must withstand the constant pulls of the elements and we add extra resistant central reinforcements along the seam central for those who want to use the tarpaulin as in the diamond or plow-point configuration. The thread is of great strength and the stitches with attention to detail.

What we like even more is having some extra cushioning when it becomes really important: such as during off-the-grid trips in which every ounce matters (or simply if we're being honest - ALL THE TIME!). These things are handmade by someone who knows how much abuse they'll take before falling apart without weighing a ton! Made in Spain

WHAT IS MERINO WOOL?
Merino wool is a natural fiber grown by Merino sheep (oveja merina). It originated and was improved in Extremadura in the XII and XIII centuries, being instrumental in the economic development of Spain, which held a monopoly on the trade in its thinner and softer wool. We choose to work with Merino wool because it’s one of the most adaptable materials on Earth: each fiber naturally helps regulate body temperature, transports sweat away as a vapor, and cancels out odors; these benefits make it the ideal performance material for exploring nature. Every single woolen item in our store is 100% Made in Spain, respecting the old ways of wool processing, our cattle, our artisans and our clients. Our machinery is over 100 years old and it doesn’t look as if it will quit anytime soon. Finally, the fabric is exposed in the dry and sunny days of the valleys of León to get rid of any moisture. We love taking care of the process as much as you will enjoy taking it in your adventures. It’s in our tradition and spirit. The King Size (200cm x 250cm) and the Twin Size (200cm x 140cm) 100% Pure Merino Wool Blankets are a staple for every outdoor enthusiast or rustic decorator; each piece is unique. They will keep you toasty warm thanks to their wonderful properties and natural thistle carding. Either during a camp in the wilderness as well as on a cold night at the cabin, these classic pieces will delight all. Combine it with our new Nessmuk Tarp to have a historically accurate, wind and water resistant, toasty and warm bedroll for your classic camp! -
Traditional twine (4mm) and rope (6mm) made from the fine threads of the hemp plant, coated with tar. Tarred yarn has been used aboard sailing ships for rigging, to serve and knot tying, as well as for tying the so-called ratΙines and hanks for centuries, it has been very common throughout the centuries in wilderness areas where it became a basic supply for pioneers. Historically these yarns were made from hemp which had to be impregnated in "Swedish tar" for conservation. Wood tar is washed out by rain and spindrift after a year, until then it is Water and UV resistant. Apply some amount of oil/wax reproofing cream to keep the rope as efficient as the first day. By the way... our tarred rope is resistant to the occasional open flame and it's a great tinder! But how does a rope with these two characteristics work and what extra capabilities does it have? Process the rope fibers to make a bird's nest. Throw high temperature sparks by the means of a ferrocerium rod or similar. It will catch the sparks amazingly! The flame the nest will provide will be very ample, hot and fast: this is called a Flash Tinder. Do you want a more sustainable flame? Use separate yarns of your rope as kindling or just press more tightly some parts of the nest you created, it will help maintain a flame for longer. Blowing into it will restart your flame! Expose a piece of rope to a flame long enough until it finally catches on fire, voilà! You just created a portable flame: this makeshift candle works because of the infused tar in the rope, as it melts and feeds the natural hemp fibre. Not enough light? Wrap a good amount of rope around the end of a branch and light it, you will be crafting a Fire Torch in no time thanks to the waterproofing formula. (If your branch has some resin at the end of it, you add some wax, oil or fat to it, you will make it last longer)

Imagine finding the perfect camping spot, only to discover your aluminum tent pegs will readily bend when driving them into the ground. This has been an everlasting nuisance for most campers, you can take our word for it: Spain is one of the most mountainous countries in the world! The Toledo Tent Stakes consist of 10 zinc-plated 6mm wide steel wires turned into sturdy nails. The hardened point will displace or break most stones the moment you start driving it into the hard ground! The cross-bar, reminiscent of those famous Toledan swords, will keep the loops of any tent or tarp tightly bound to it, and with a nice tug from it you'll be able to extract the tent peg.

Our Oilskin "Nap" Sack is a very comfortable solution, both for your next outing in nature as for the best of your breaks in the forest. It is specially designed for our Oilskin Tarp: It can be carried inside to isolate it from moisture and dirt, while it is very comfortable used as a pillow case thanks to its wool-cashmere blend inner lining. The four leather laces and authentic spanish olive wood toggles allow the camper to tie the Nap-Sack with the tarp inside folded or rolled up, and to hang from somewhere if it is to be used as a foraging bag. The density of the material makes it perfect to withstand mountain work and isolate the equipment from water, due to the hydrophobic properties of the wax and oil treatment. It works as an excellent seat or work surface, knee pad, etc. The wool-cashmere blend lining combines the softness of cashmere with the thermal and hypoallergenic properties of wool, making your night much more relaxing. When you try it, you'll know it: The practicality of this multipurpose item. Made in Spain

Here you have it: the Genuine Nessmuk Oilskin Tarp, or as he liked to call it, his Shelter-Cloth. Follow the steps of the Grandfather of Bushcraft. The compact and light 2×2,5 meter cotton canvas weighs around 1,8kg / 3lb 8oz and it proved more than enough on multiple of his adventures in the Adirondacks. The tarp is finished with 9 sturdy loops for your comfort. Its layer of wax and oil provides resistance to water, which will slide down the tarp, thus making it very waterproof. We were pioneers in the manufacture of Oilskin Tarps in Europe and they gained their fame across the World. We have paid all our care to their composition: The Nessmuk Tarp follows the specifications Nessmuk gave in his book Woodcraft and Camping: "A soft, warm blanket-bag, open at the ends, and just long enough to cover the sleeper, with an oblong square of water-proofed cotton cloth 6×8 feet, will give warmth and shelter by night and will weigh together five or six pounds." We took note of this, and since George Washington Sears weighed 47kg (103lb) and measured 1,60m (5' 3"), the Shelter-Cloth had to be modified slightly to be able to cover the bigger campers of today: we added some inches in its width and length to become the handy tarp that many love.

- The featured lavvu mod requires owning a polish lavvu tent beforehand - Works perfectly with our Polish Lavvu Ground Cloth ! In addition, adding any of our Oilskin & Wool Ground Cloths will make this camp one of the coziest ever made. Many people asked us about something that needed to be done about the wonderful Polish Lavvu Poncho Tent! The Polish Lavvu Poncho Tent has been a reliable go-to piece of gear for those who were seeking a quality canvas tent that didn't break the bank and could be useful for other tasks. Hot tents, small one-man shelters using one of the halves, three different lavvu / teepee style tent sizes. Everybody knows them, most have them. There was a small improvement to be made: even the polish lavvu size 3 could only shelter two people. What if the group of campers was bigger than two? For those who liked using a wood stove it was clearly impossible to fit two people comfortably and the stove safely. And let's not mention size 1 or size 2...As a matter of fact, this brilliant design didn't have the campers of tomorrow in mind. We are taller than 50 years ago, and sleeping in them always requires readjusting our sleeping position thoroughly. Tall people, big groups, winter campers and, in general, people who like to camp comfortably will surely appreciate our Polish Poncho-Lavvu Extension. Weighing 1,4kg (3lb) and packing as small as another poncho half, this piece of gear can be transported easily, folded, rolled or used as a poncho, thanks to its waterproof qualities and its two vents, through which you can introduce your head. If you are wearing a hat, this poncho will keep you 100% bone-dry. Setting it up is easy-peasy! We have put great care in making every grommet adapt to any of the three sizes available for the lavvu tent, then the multiple buttons can be buttoned following the lavvu's own buttonholes, the top of the canvas features a clever pocket for the tent pole. Two vents in the middle of the canvas, in the same fashion as those used in the original lavvu, help against the condensation issue many tents have. The 100% cotton canvas, along with the multiple vents allow great airflow and make condensation a problem of the past. This shelter, using two halves with the middle piece open on one side, or used as a wedge tent with only one of the poncho halves, allows you to have a small campfire in the front. When closed, a wood stove can be carefully placed inside*, keeping you warm and comfortable in your own 100% cotton canvas tent. Check out the new video of Northern Woodsmen using our Polish Lavvu Poncho Tent modification.
