The Loue Canvas Tent: A Timeless Design from Finland Camping is all about blending in with nature and embracing the great outdoors. And what better way to do that than with a Loue Canvas Tent, a traditional Finnish design that pays tribute to the way camping should be. Made of 100% organic cotton, this tent offers a more authentic, breathable, and naturally UV-resistant experience than synthetic materials. Available in Forest Green and Natural Canvas, as well as Forest Green or Mountain Brown for the oilskin version, the Loue Shelter is perfect for hunting and trekking excursions. Easy to Set Up and Spacious Setting up the Loue is a breeze. Simply hang the top tip of the tent fabric from a tree, branch, or walking stick, and fix the bottom to the ground with pegs. The darts attached to the rear seams help keep the shelter taut, providing extra internal space and excellent protection against wind and rain. For a basic setup, pitch the apex at around 150-180 cm using a tree or other available pole. It's also possible to combine two or three Loue to form a larger, enclosed tipi or Finnish kota-type of shelter. Warm and Cozy with a Campfire The Loue is meant to be used with a campfire set in front of it, heating the shelter and reflecting light and heat to create a warm and cozy atmosphere. And if you prefer alternative heat sources such as stoves, they can be used as well. The tent is completely open on one side, shielding you from the wind and rain while still allowing you to make optimal use of the heat from your fire. Place the Loue so that the prevailing winds blow across the opening of the loue, taking smoke away from the shelter and keeping you comfortable. The Origins of the Loue The Loue Canvas Tent has its roots in Finland. A.E. Järvinen, a famous Finnish forester, painter, and writer, graduated as a forester in 1915 and went on to work in Rovaniemi as a forest appraiser for Metsähallitus and later as chief forester as head of the appraisal office. Järvinen wrote about the importance of a loue-fabric, a protector from the wind and rain, in his books. He described a loue-shelter as good for a small group of 1-3 persons, light and spacious, and providing warmth as well as protection from the rain and smoke. Kullervo Kemppinen, a boy-scout leader, also played a role in making the Loue world-famous. Kemppinen wrote dozens of books about the outdoors, based on over 50 hill hikes he made to the Saariselä fells, Lemmenjoki, Muotka, Paistunturi, Pallas-Ounas, Käsivarte, and Ruija between 1948 and 1995. His first book, Lumikuru, stories and pictures from the Saariselkä fells, was based on a hike he made in 1950 and has greatly influenced backpacking. Kemppinen wrote about receiving the blueprints of the authentic Loue, designed by A.E. Järvinen himself, after a hike and being immediately intrigued. He described the Loue as a shelter that provided full protection from the wind and rain, where all activities such as drying wet clothes, repairing them, cooking, and coffee making could be done sitting under its protection. The Loue Canvas Tent is a timeless design that offers a traditional, authentic, and comfortable camping experience.

- The featured lavvu mod requires owning a polish lavvu tent beforehand - Works perfectly with our Polish Lavvu Ground Cloth ! In addition, adding any of our Oilskin & Wool Ground Cloths will make this camp one of the coziest ever made. Many people asked us about something that needed to be done about the wonderful Polish Lavvu Poncho Tent! The Polish Lavvu Poncho Tent has been a reliable go-to piece of gear for those who were seeking a quality canvas tent that didn't break the bank and could be useful for other tasks. Hot tents, small one-man shelters using one of the halves, three different lavvu / teepee style tent sizes. Everybody knows them, most have them. There was a small improvement to be made: even the polish lavvu size 3 could only shelter two people. What if the group of campers was bigger than two? For those who liked using a wood stove it was clearly impossible to fit two people comfortably and the stove safely. And let's not mention size 1 or size 2...As a matter of fact, this brilliant design didn't have the campers of tomorrow in mind. We are taller than 50 years ago, and sleeping in them always requires readjusting our sleeping position thoroughly. Tall people, big groups, winter campers and, in general, people who like to camp comfortably will surely appreciate our Polish Poncho-Lavvu Extension. Weighing 1,4kg (3lb) and packing as small as another poncho half, this piece of gear can be transported easily, folded, rolled or used as a poncho, thanks to its waterproof qualities and its two vents, through which you can introduce your head. If you are wearing a hat, this poncho will keep you 100% bone-dry. Setting it up is easy-peasy! We have put great care in making every grommet adapt to any of the three sizes available for the lavvu tent, then the multiple buttons can be buttoned following the lavvu's own buttonholes, the top of the canvas features a clever pocket for the tent pole. Two vents in the middle of the canvas, in the same fashion as those used in the original lavvu, help against the condensation issue many tents have. The 100% cotton canvas, along with the multiple vents allow great airflow and make condensation a problem of the past. This shelter, using two halves with the middle piece open on one side, or used as a wedge tent with only one of the poncho halves, allows you to have a small campfire in the front. When closed, a wood stove can be carefully placed inside*, keeping you warm and comfortable in your own 100% cotton canvas tent. We're proud to announce the Whelen Lean-to Tent ! Water,Rot and Mildew Repellant treatment will certainly improve your experience in the woods. Save more with our Canvas Tarp camp kits below! The Whelen Lean-To Tent is one of the classic shelter for bushcrafters, hunters, anglers and camper. It was designed by Colonel Townsend Whelen, who was looking for a possibly lightweight way to go about back in the 1920’s, so it was, that in 1926 he developed what he would call the “Hunter’s Lean-to”. In 1901 a young Spanish American War veteran walked out of the Canadian bush. He was 24 years old, over six feet tall, with a 44 inch chest and a 29 inch waist. Dressed in a fringed buckskin shirt, jodhpurs, high-top moccasins and a campaign hat, Townsend Whelen was well on his way to establishing his place in the pantheon of great outdoorsmen. He carried a typically light outfit. By 1915 he was back in the U.S. Army as a captain with the 29th Infantry Regiment defending the Panama Canal in unmapped country. Whelen set out to explore the Panamanian jungle whenever time away from his duties allowed—always with a rucksack and a light-weight kit. Whelen remained in the military until retirement in 1936. He is perhaps best known today among readers of hunting and military small arms literature. He wrote at least a half a dozen books and was a regular contributor to Field and Stream among others. Through it all, Whelen camped. And even though he had experience with about every kind of shelter available to the sport at the time—his choice, again and again was—the tarp, evolved in the Whelen Tent. This shelter allows you to have a campfire in the front, but its generally even more open to the surrounding, doesn’t have the sewn in floor, and therefore weighs considerably less. This design, which almost has the appearance of half a tent is more than adequate for anything short of -20 degrees or severe bugs. A sloped rear roof, slanted and splayed sides, and a short fore roof panel. Light and easy to pack. The loops along the ridge can be used for tying to external pole set up. Loops on back seams for roping out if the need comes up. This 5kg ( 11lbs ) sturdy 10oz canvas tent has an area, in the standard configuration, of 8m² ( 86sqft) and will shelter comfortably up to 4 people! It can be packed to approx. 40cm x 40cm x 10cm ( 16" x 16" x 4" ) or a 25cm x 50cm (10" x 20") roll; perfect for our Premium Camp Kit's Leather Shoulder Carrier. We were pioneers in the manufacture of Oilskin Tarps in Europe and they gained their fame across the World. The next step was creating tents such as the Whelen Lean-to Tent. It’s a classic, sturdy shelter and an amazing tent with a very interesting history. Its

you won't need any tools! Made of a reliable, and traditional organic 100% cotton fabric; the way they were made. This is our tribute, don't settle for less: cotton fabrics are more breathable, more authentic, naturally UV-resistant, and they are available in Forest Green and Natural Canvas (and Forest Green or Mountain Brown for our oilskin version of the Forester Tent), for setting up camps that are perfect for hunting and trekking. Gear that blends in nature, the way camping should be.Daniel Carter Beard, one of the founders of the Boy Scouts of America, was the first to talk about the Forester's Tent, a light and reliable tent that offers a wonderful cover from the elements. The front of the tent is around 210cm (7ft) wide and 180cm (6ft) tall, while the rear is 90cm (3ft) both tall and wide, allowing to accommodate a camper comfortably, and even the rucksack; the length is about 240cm (8ft), with very little effort 2 campers can have a wonderful shelter with space for their equipment. It is meant to be used with a campfire in front of it so as to profit from the warmth: the design of this Forester Tent provides a sleeping place that won't condensate nor let water in, if pitched correctly. There are many ways to set -up this tent, you can use a big bipod in front of it, you can build a tripod as the very frame of the tent, and even using a long pole from a broken tree is possible, if you use it as a beam for the interior of the tent it can leave throuh the opening at the back; with some rocks you can find around you can secure the sides of the shelter,
