The Gränsfors Sharpening Stone is made from durable ceramic with two working surfaces: a coarse 180-grit side for repairing nicks or heavy wear, and a finer 600-grit side for restoring a sharp edge. Unlike natural stones, the ceramic allows a consistent grain size, giving predictable results and a long working life.
Its shape is round and slightly flattened, with bevelled edges that help the stone move smoothly across the blade without catching. The fine side takes up two-thirds of the thickness, since it sees the most use. The stone can be used with water for cleaner grinding, but also works dry when needed. A protective rubber case both shields the stone and provides a secure grip during use.
